National Front leader and French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen on Tuesday nixed a meeting with a Lebanese religious leader after he requested she wear a headscarf.
“You can pass on my respects to the Grand Mufti, but I will not cover myself up,” Le Pen said, according to Reuters.
Le Pen is in Lebanon for talks with President Michel Aoun and meetings with business and religious leaders. The two-day visit is her first trip to visit a foreign head of state.
Opinion polls suggest Le Pen is set to win the first round of France’s presidential election on April 23, but be beaten in the second round on May 7.
