Sen. John McCain — ya gotta quit.
Seriously, sorry for the brain
cancer and all. But the fact that you’re still a sitting senator means you’re
open to constituent accountability — and criticism.
And this latest unhinged
blasting of Peter Doocy of Fox News is truly unwarranted.
Doocy, after all, only asked
what’s in the back of minds of most political watchers.
“Has your relationship with
the president frayed to the point that you are not going to support anything
that he comes to you and asks for?” Doocy asked, as Mediaite noted.
McCain’s response?
“Why would you say something
that stupid?” he said. “Why would you ask something that dumb? Huh? My job as a
United States senator is [as] a senator from Arizona which I was just
re-elected to. You mean that I am somehow going to behave in a way that I’m
going to block everything because of some personal disagreement?”
Ummm … yes. That’s exactly
what Doocy was asking to clarify — because that’s exactly what the majority of
conservatives believe.
McCain’s contempt for Trump
stretches long. The two have traded public barbs for quite some time.
But it was McCain who recently
shuffled across the Senate floor to cast his dramatic thumbs-down vote for
Trump-pressed, Trump-promised Obamacare reform. And it was McCain who just came
out and spoke harshly about what he called “half-baked nationalism,” an obvious
reference to the type of America First mentality that Trump — and Stephen
Bannon, for that matter — ushered into the nation.
